Stage Names

I am an actress. I was born an actress and anyone that loves to act--knows it from the time they make their first big entrance...birth! But, I am blessed because both of my children are actresses(drama queens, but never mind the titles) too..AND actresses need stage names!

For years, I have had my "stage" name chosen...never had the need to use it, yet...but it is written in a tattered notebook along with my 4 episodes of Growing Pains that I wrote as a teenager. I was Caddie Pots...LOL, I kid you not. I remember loving the name Caddie from the book Caddie Woodlawn...which I read in 5th grade, but Pots...well, I must have been in the kitchen...or around my Uncle Eldo (family joke). Needless to say, I changed it in my early 2os to Ezra Samuels. Ezra from one of my favorite musical groups Better than Ezra and Samuels for my love of Makers Mark. (Samuels is the family name of the creators.)

Fast forward, now my children need stage names. Claudia is going with Ilse Boyd...short-sweet and an homage to both her middle name (and it's German heritage) and my "new" last name. Recently, Catarina had to ride a Greyhound bus for the first time...thus creating this next "texting" scenario and her stage name...or so I thought...LOL.

Madre: Do not give your real name to anyone. If anyone asks, just say JK Rowling...old people won't know...

Madre:...dumb people won't care.

Catarina-Bo-Bina: Caw Caw

Madre: use your British accent

Catarina-Bo-Bina: Hahahaha. My name is emiline tart.

Madre:OOOkkkk

Catarina-Bo-Bina: That's my stage name.

Madre:oooookkkkk

Catarina-Bo-Bina: Well, Claudia has one. I want one.

****When I got the text I burst out laughing so hard the hubs asked what was so funny. I read the convo back to him. He said, "that's a good one...the stage name". I was perplexed, emiline? As a stage name? He proceeded to tell me to say it faster...together. EMILINE TART..."I'm a lyin' tart"...OMG...how funny. I'm sure that's an old line from somewhere, but it was new on this mama...and I loved it. Point for Catarina. She is finally becoming...a comedienne in her own right. Kudos, baby! I love you!

Reading other blogs!

It should be against the law of the Internet for people to post what blogs they are following, because for once in my life...I am no longer a leader...I AM A FOLLOWER...LOL. Today, is a fine example of how the Internet can suck your brains out...or just turn it to mush. I spent nearly 3 hours of my life, that I can't get back, going from blog to blog to blog.

Not sure that I learned anything, either...but, it was entertaining. I try to start with friend's blogs, but they appear to be lazier than I am...so it's a short read. I then start just clicking on next blog on blogger, but after 3 or 4 in languages I do not know...I just start google-ing things I like: scrapbooking, interior design, recipes, space, etc. After, I find one that I really like, I start looking at who they are following, and then who they're following is following. You see where this is going, right?

Anyway, just wanted to give a shout out at some of the blogs that I enjoyed and are now possibly following. It's nice to see some other bloggers every once in a while. Enjoy!

Mr. Potter...Finally, reading Book 7!

OK...I do not want to hear any crap over this, but...I have NEVER read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-#7. I have read parts of it, but never the whole book. I didn't want to read it because then it would be over.

You know what I'm talking about...when you read one of the HP books, for the first time, you just can't put it down until you have read the whole thing...and then you're sad when you finish it because it's over and you have to wait soooo long for the next one. Well, with #7...there is no next one. It's over.

I find that so hard to absorb and believe...therefore, I just kept putting it off. I don't want it to end. I didn't want Dumbledore to die. I don't want to feel sorry for Malfoy. I just want HP to keep going and going...I want Harry to become an auror and then to one day run Hogwarts, that's what we all want, right?...I want Harry Potter and the AARP Bandits-Book 75.

But alas, that will never happen...thanks, J.K. for nothin'...OK, sorry...thank, J.K. for everything! HP has been a wonderful ride!

arts and crafts

Thank you Jesus and macaroni. I have to attribute my life long "love of crafting" to vacation bible schools and elbow pasta. I was somewhat poor growing up, which was not a hindrance (it's a great quality to have in the aid of being crafty), but my grandmother raised me...and really didn't craft a lot. She was great at cooking and pretty good at sewing, but arts and crafts were not her thing.

I, on the the other hand, LOVE to craft and have instilled the "art of crafting" in both of my daughters. In fact, I love it when I see them looking at something and they say, "hey, Mom...I think we can make this!". I, of course, regardless of what it is, ALWAYS say "YES, we can".

Who knows, maybe we can't make it EXACTLY like it looks...but we can dang sure try...and I have to remind them...most things can be fixed to please us or the eye--sometimes things come out better than we expect, too!

My little one tends to like crafting more than the eldest, but I believe that is merely because of age. I mean, why sit around making flower pens and bookmarks with your mother when you could be texting or IM-img all your cool friends.Yet, I know, she enjoys it because when she wants to do something nice for her friends, it always starts with, "Mom, I was thinking we could make______ for________" and then what do I ALWAYS say..."YES, we can".

Today is a busy day!

...back to the doctor...wtf?...whiplash?

Ok...so I go back to the doctor today. You know, make sure the pneumonia is gone...which I am sure is not, but turns out is...who knew? (However, there must be some other reason I am breathing like an 85 year old, chain-smoking hag.)

Anyway, x-rays show lungs are clear. My oxygen level is 97%. The C/T scan shows no pulmonary issues...I'm starting to think this is all in my head...and then guess what? It turns out it is.

Dealing with the pneumonia was an ordeal. I'm not a good sick person and when I can't breathe, like most of us, I am not a happy person. I blamed my antibiotic for all the head trauma I was having. It stated on it's website...headaches and brain-stem swelling...that was EXACTLY what I was having.

However, when I stopped the med it didn't go away...so I proceed to tell my doctor and then he starts feeling around and asking questions and then the hubs pipes in and starts chatting with him about "my roller coaster" comment at Disney...I try to brush it off, but then my doc "ssshhhhhs" me. I was like, heh? Did he just "ssshhhh" me?

So, after xrays, I have a freakin' C-spine injury...WHIPLASH. The kind where I have to wear the collar that I make fun of people wearing all the time. The kind that ambulance-chasing lawyers look for in a crowd. It is pathetic. I AM PATHETIC.

...but I want to get better, so according to wiki :Treatment for individuals with whiplash may include pain medications, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antidepressants, muscle relaxants, and a cervical collar (usually worn for 2 to 3 weeks). Range of motion exercises, physical therapy, and cervical traction may also be prescribed. Supplemental heat application may relieve muscle tension...and I can live with that, but I have to go to a neurologist on Friday, so we'll see what she says...and then we'll see what I have to do to get out of this contraption.

Ain't life grand?...well, I am living, so that's good enough for me today!

Kentucky and Cheerleading...a way of life!

Nothing important today...well, it's important, but probably not to you the reader/follower. Cheerleading is a way of life in Kentucky. You start "rah-rah"-ing at roughly the same time you start on solid food. The first word you learn to spell is C-A-T-S and you live to see that big "K" flag flying at a UK ballgame. I mean, we have like 15 National Championships!

I have loved cheerleading my whole life...from the time I was forced to be a flyer because my semi-qualified cousins were learning new stunts at middle school practice 'til I was a base because of my lack of tumbling skills...LOL. It really didn't matter to me. I was happy just to have a uniform and being a "cheerleader" was a common thread that ran through me...and my cousins. Later in life, I started coaching and now I'm moving on to judging. I can't say it enough...I love cheerleading!

After I had my first child, a sweet baby girl, I knew tradition would carry on and there was at least another cheerleader to come from this family. One of my proudest moments was when she was about 5 and she said to me, "Mom, when I grow up I want to be a cheerleader...AND work in a crayon factory." So far, so good...she has cheered and she plans on attending college to be a chemical engineer...so, she very well could work in a crayon factory...LOL.

However, my youngest is ready for the die hard cheerleading life. She has been a cheerleader from day one and nothing is going to stop her from being the best. She wants to be a gymnast, a dancer, a whatever-she-needs-to-do...to be a "great" cheerleader. (We laugh because she has a cheer gang at school. They meet on the playground and throw down their own choreographed routines...I wish I were kidding, but I am not. She is hardcore, baby!)

Cheerleading is a way of life. I believe you either love it or loathe it. However, being from KY, I can't imagine it not affecting your life in some form or fashion. I'm glad it has been a part of my life and I hope my girls carry the love of cheering with them for many, many years.

FRAK...SyFy.

Are you kidding me? Sci Fi Channel has decided to change their name to "not brand" themselves. Heh?

You are a brand idiots! You are targeting a "specialized" demographic--Science Fiction. Sci Fi followers are the reason you have viewers.

The hubs tunes in b/c he knows Stargate is probably on. I watch Eureka b/c it's not a sappy Lifetime made for television movie (not that I'm knocking that...I have watched Lifetime movies--many times, but I was normally needing a good cry and a tub of ice cream).

However, when I turn it to the Sci Fi channel, I want to see Sci Fi...that's why I turned it there in the first place, you Frakkin' idiots. I guess "Imagine Greater" means YOU think the viewer needs to expand his/her mind...duh, that's why we watch your channel people!!!!

My daughters' weddings...plenty of time to plan!

I know that I have gone on and on about how much I LOVE weddings...and if I haven't said it before, my FEAR of my 2 beautiful daughters eloping. I have ALWAYS said that I would put a 2nd mortgage on my house to fulfill their wedding desires, but as they get older...I may not do that...LOL...but I may not have to either. They seem to already have in mind what they want.

I would laugh, but I started planning my wedding when I was 10, but don't all little girls? Now, the 1st time around...I had a nice wedding planned...purple and gold (yes, please don't laugh), in January, invites to everyone I could think of that I knew would buy a gift...LOL...but that didn't happen...I rushed to a courthouse and then to a backwoods "ordained" minister...and then, well...we all know how that turned out...LOL.

The 2nd time, though, was PERFECT. I got exactly what I wanted. (I mean, I would have preferred for some of the guests to be considerate enough to wear dress slacks, but my eyes were on the prize and nothing could have ruined that moment.) My husband and I were in it together from the beginning. He tried to accommodate every wish I had for that day. Truly, even the planning stage was a wonderful experience.

I have to remember that, too. I want to give my girls' great weddings, but I want to give them what THEY want. Claudia has stated that she will marry in Savannah at the Catholic church and I will have the reception in the town square (200-300 guests)...and Catarina, well...she wants a simple Disney wedding with 20 people. Now, I'm sure all of this will change...but how cute that they already have something in mind....Ok, I'm guilty...maybe, I planted the seed, but it will ALL be up to them when the time comes and all I can hope...is that time is not too soon...LOL.
Thank Heaven...they are still little girls!

LOL...and Oh, almost forgot, Happy Birthday USA!

It is the 4th of July and I'm sick as a dog...so no real celebration for me today, but I truly celebrate our nation's birthday each day, when I log onto this little box and freely type whatever I want to say...so, Thank You, Founding Fathers!

With that being said, I came across a great website this morning courtesy of CNN...if you get the chance, take a look at these...some are way too funny. In fact, if I can get around to it one day...I'll even post my laser picture...for now though, you can enjoy Jason Mraz's. (I always knew I loved him for some odd reason...now I know, it was our laser connection.)

vacation souvenir...pneumonia!

Near the end of vacation, I started talking like Marge Simpson. Dead on Marge Simpson, but by the time we got home I was having a horrible time breathing. I thought maybe it was the change in climate or maybe just traveling...I was wrong.

On Tuesday morning, I could barely breath and it felt like someone had knocked me across the back with a baseball bat (which is exactly how I described it to my doctor)...turns out I was really sick. Sick, like "I'd like to put you in the hospital for a few days" sick...wtf?

I managed to keep him from putting me in, but I have to take multiple meds...and I am so not good with that...LOL. I, also, really hate being sick. I am a mean sick person. (Just ask my husband.)

So there it is...the best vacation in the world followed by being deathly ill. "Who could ask for anything more?"...LOL.

I hear, I'll live. We'll see...LOL.
